Hallway

Staining the hallway has been slow due to having to sand and vacuum. We have learned to inspect everything. One coat is done. The wood was only sanded lightly so it has the patina still. Patina= it’s kind of dirty looking.

Hi – I really like your finishing of the fir in your house. I am finishing fir wood windows, can you describe your process? I did watch your youtube piece describing your preconditioning and staining, but then in other posts you talk about shellac??
    thanks, and good work. -aaron

    To finish fir….

    Add color.
    Then Finish

    Color Step:
    1. ApplyPre-stain Conditioner with clean rag
    10% Boiled Linseed Oil
    90% Mineral Spirits
    2. 2 coats of oil based stain Applied with brush or rag

    Finish Step.
    For non water areas.
    1. Several layers of shellac.
I apply two to three coats rapidly with a good quality brush. 30 minutes between coats. Or touch dry,
    2. Sand the finish lightly with 320.
    3. I french polish with a thin coat of shellac several times the next day.
