Baby Hummingbirds in the Sun

Our baby hummingbirds bask in the sun. This is the second year that a hummingbird has nested in our back yard. Last year “Sparky” set up a nest in our ficus trees on the driveway. Two birds survived and flew away, but a second batch of eggs vanished suddenly one rainy night. Sniff….

But one day recently I heard the now familiar chirp of the hummingbird and waited till I spotted the nest: Two jelly bean-sized eggs.

A few weeks later and here are the babies. They are waiting for “Sparky 2″ to come feed them.

I took this photo as the sun began to set. They are slightly lizardy but feathery. Cute!
